- The first 65 miles are mostly flat or gently undulating, making this an ideal warm-up section.
- Enjoy rolling hills, open fields, and dense forests as the rugged Highland scenery gradually unfolds.
- On reaching Lochcarron, the challenge begins with a gradual 1-mile climb, preparing you for what lies ahead.
- Depart from the peaceful village of Shieldaig, cycling through quiet roads surrounded by rugged hills and heather-clad landscapes.
- As you approach Torridon, the scenery becomes dramatic, dominated by the towering peaks of Beinn Alligin and Liathach.
- Cycle alongside Loch Torridon, where shimmering reflections mirror the surrounding mountains.
- Continue through ancient pine forests, where the scent of woodland fills the air.
- Cycle past Stac Pollaidh, one of Scotland’s most iconic mountains.
- The route is hilly and winding, but rewards you with crystal-clear lochs and sweeping coastal views.
- Stop at Lochinver for food or coffee before tackling the tougher sections ahead.
- Ride around the Assynt Peninsula, passing highlights such as Clachtoll Beach and Drumbeg Viewpoint.

- This is a very remote ride, particularly after leaving Melvich.

- Follow the beautiful Kyle of Sutherland, with wide-open views and peaceful roads.
- Stop at Shin Falls, famous for spotting leaping salmon.
- Cross Bonar Bridge, briefly touch the A9, and continue toward Tain.
