- Start your journey in Milngavie, following the West Highland Way north.
- Continue along the western slopes of the Campsie Fells, a favourite area for many first-time Glasgow mountaineers.
- Walk past the peaceful Craigallian and Carbeth Lochs.
- Reach your first overnight stop in the welcoming village of Drymen, at the south-eastern edge of Loch Lomond.
- Travel light — your bags are collected at the start and delivered to your accommodation before you arrive.
- Leave Balmaha and follow the eastern shore of Loch Lomond northwards.
- Gentle woodland and gravel paths up to Rowardennan (toilets & refreshments).
- From Rowardennan to Inversnaid, the trail becomes narrow, rocky, root-covered and technical.
- Pass the Inversnaid Hotel, a welcome rest stop before the toughest section.
- Extremely rugged lochside walking with scrambling sections and constant ups and downs.
- Finally leave the loch and reach the flat paths into Inverarnan.
- Leave Loch Lomond behind and follow the River Falloch through open countryside.
- Wider tracks and gentler gradients offer a welcome recovery after Day 2.
- Views open up toward Ben More and Stob Binnein.
- Option to take the scenic high route above Strath Fillan in good weather.
- Pass St Fillan’s Priory and reach Tyndrum, ideal for food and supplies.
- Follow the historic military road through Glen Orchy with vast Highland scenery.
- Gentle descent into the peaceful hamlet of Bridge of Orchy.
- Cross the historic bridge and climb steadily into the hills.
- Walk across the wild and beautiful Rannoch Moor, one of the most remote sections of the route.
- Pass Loch Tulla with views toward Buachaille Etive Mòr.
- Descend into Glencoe and reach the iconic Kingshouse Hotel.
- Climb the famous Devil’s Staircase, the highest point of the West Highland Way (550m).
- Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views before a long descent into Kinlochleven.
- Begin with a steep forest climb out of Kinlochleven.
- Reach the remote Lairigmor (Great Pass) — wide, empty, and dramatic.
- No facilities along this stretch — carry enough food and water.
- Gradual descent toward Fort William through forest tracks.
- First clear views of Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest mountain.
- Finish the West Highland Way at Gordon Square, Fort William.
